about

Rewind back to 2004. December 30th to be exact. I was invited to perform alongside Kite Operations as a guest for a one-off improvisational experiment they had put together in NYC. I recall the weeks of rehearsal prior to the show, many of which were recorded without me. I remember their demos like they were yesterday. “They’re creating some really sublime stuff here," I thought to myself. The sessions were sort of works of seemingly orchestrated sounds, with a mixture of dynamic scales and elements of shoegaze-to-pure-noise, backed by really jazzy chops. It was inspiring, I must admit. But that was just a taste of what to expect 5 years down the line. In retrospect, I don't think I was able to fully comprehend what was being unleashed at the time, but I just knew that it was something really special. And I had a strong suspicion that this wasn't their first encounter with what was happening within those few weeks of rehearsing for the improvisational show. It couldn't have been; I just knew it. It came too naturally for them. I realize now that I was just a tourist at the time. To this day, I still feel like those sessions were somehow part of their progression all along- a precursor to “Festival,” if you will. Now that their 3rd installment is a completed piece and has taken a life of its own, in a way, my memory of that time has come full circle. A lot has happened in the last few years since I’ve moved, personally and musically. And I can hear the growth in this band. The work of “Festival” is evidence that their thirst for new horizons has catapulted. I feel very lucky to have been there in the beginning stages to witness a tiny glimpse of their newfound spirit unfolding 5 years ago, as I sat there and listened…just as I'm sitting here now, on the other side of the country...5 years later...still listening...

Track Name: Festival
festival
they have gathered
expecting more
when the sun sets
i will have come here
too
by this
river
changes everything
show me a future
and grasp it
when you were incomplete before
you didn't see it
Track Name: Beyonce
teach me how to see this world
so i can barely breathe

sunlight burns my eyelids off
and brings me to my knees

give me this life! i need this life!
give me this life! i want this life!
i wanna live this life!

i stare at the burning light
blood evaporates from my veins

self parts from my flesh and bones
my body disintegrates...
Track Name: Islands
send you a line
once in a while

and how...

you found a real life
i am proud of you

see me?

you fled from porno
saved us from boredom
christ, i wonder how it feels to be your man at night
arms aching, warm, wet, and tight
i will remember you
Track Name: Ded Moroz
we entered houses randomly
flew off rooftops, skidded on roof shingles
watch where you're going!
these damn brakes hardly work anymore...
turn around! who are you?
tell me what you want!
i'll just leave this things.. uh, over here.. and i'll be on my way..
nah, nah, you ain't going nowhere!
you listen to me when i'm talking to you!
[a little rosiness of the cheeks and with a twinkle in his eye]

the children were confused, delighted, crazed by what they saw
the silhouettes were frenzied closing in around them all
everywhere at once he spread them
in return, of course, they fed him
fueled by 100 million milk glasses, 4 billion cookies of molasses
he set out to achieve a thankless task
a role for which he did not ask
why does santa claus get all the credit?
that capitalist pig, he just doesn't get it!

i am the laziest man alive
i work one day out of the year
364 days of unemployment
please i need a purpose
i sit around and drink until it's that time again
can't taste a thing anymore
all this vodka's killing my taste buds
oh you can pay me for my time, but you can't buy my soul!

ah! who's to judge what's good and fair?
i'll gift them all! i do not care!
for i am father ded moroz
upon siberian yaks i'll toast to children,
their unbridled greed
cognac and my snow maiden are all i need
onward pasha! onward 'tola!
1, 2, 3, 4!
Track Name: Magellan
got to go back home now
stayed up too late again
and i've forgotten where i am

enough sin
crawling on my back
so kindly show me
to your door

collapse on the backseat
and pay no attention to the roads
anymore
because
that's what i pay you for

keep me safe
was my only hope
Track Name: Seashell
seashells
on the seashore
singing sweet songs
that saved my life

seashells
she'll never look into these eyes
she'll never steal me through these eyes
she'll never pull me into my sea grave to die

seashells!
seashells!
seashells!
you saved my life

drown like stones
in a paper boat
oh and they claw
and they claw
and they claw
my hands and pull me deep

seashells!
escape!
escape yourself

she'll never look into these eyes
she'll never steal me through these eyes
she'll never pull me into my sea grave to die
Track Name: Dasepo
where we gonna go and
who we gonna meet and
who we gonna love and
who we gonna hate and
who we gonna fight and
who we gonna save and

everybody knows it
everybody rubs it
everybody needs it
everybody shoves it
stick it in the closet
forget it cuz you lost it
never coming back, it's impossible

you and me together
you and me it's never
never ever tethered
never ever tethered
this love is never ever
never ever weathered
you and me together
never ever feathered

everybody knows it
everybody rubs it
everybody needs it
everybody shoves it
stick it in the closet
forget it cuz you lost it
never coming back, it's impossible
Track Name: What Really Matters
if i am gone will it really matter?
do you know what really matters?
and when you find out, will you be able?
who said to you, be here? do this?
are you really this?
is there life after life?
or does it even matter?
i've been waiting so long
Track Name: Ave Maria
ave maria
i am here
dry your eyes
beast to man

mindful devotion
no more war
godlike love
for all living

heart is burning
my whole life
my whole soul
in true communion
